Black Lives Matter is a movement to stop police brutality and excessive use of force on Black people. Thousands of people around the world are protesting and showing their support for this movement.
Police often use excessive force in situations dealing with people of color. Police brutality is bullying, verbal or physical harrassment, property damage and death. Black people in the U.S are disproportionally affected by police brutality. 17% of Black people killed by police were unarmed. Only 1% of the police officers involved in these death are charged with a crime or convicted.
Defund the Police means taking money away from the police and investing those funds into other parts of the community such as schools, and healthcare. About 100 billion dollars are spent on policing each year.
Racial equity is the fair inclusion of all people regardless of their race, ethnicity, or gender in which they can participate, prosper and reach their full potential in society. Racial equity prioritizes humanity, it is the next step after diversity is acheived in any environment such as, in government offices or a workplace.
Racial Equality is keeping everyone regardless of their race at the same level, it gives the same thing to all people regardless of their needs. On the other hand, racial equity strives for fair treatment, access, advancement and opportunity for all people regardless of their race, it is more needs based unlike racial equality. BOTH are good and NEEDED in society.
